Hello

I searched for the verbs used with (lab test) and found out that we can use (do-run), but I'm a bit confused about the meaning.

If I am the patient, do I say "I did/had/ran some lab tests and handed the report to my doctor." or "I had some lab tests done/run and handed the report to my doctor."?

In other words, which verb/s apply to the patient and which applies to the person who actually tests the sample?

And is it better to use the structure "have something done" in this context

Thank you

    do/run/have lab tests (5) Except we don't "run lab tests" in BE, we more usually "do tests" so "I had some tests done and handed ...."

    Yes, to everything Andy has said about 'getting' tests 'done' if you mean that somebody else took the blood and did the testing. But the thing puzzles me is you handing the report to your doctor. I have to envisage a scenario that's not familiar to me because it's the doctor who gives the results to me, not the other way round.
    Probably it doesn't matter : it's very hard to write example sentences that are entirely convincing even when English is your own language.

    Welcome to the world of patient-centred private medicine, Hermione. We do have some supposed allergy-testing clinics in the UK, so it is quite possible for a GP here to have a heart-sinking moment when a patient comes in and says "I had some tests done and they show I'm allergic to Kos lettuce, flax seed, tapioca and rape seed oil".

    GP = general practitioner

    Thank you, guys.
    In my country, doctors don't have labs in their offices. Labs can either be found in a clinic or hospital or as an independent business. Doctors only prescribe the tests you need to get done and you should go to a lab, get the tests done and hand in the report to the doctor.

    In my country the common procedure is: either the doctor takes some blood or other material and sends it to a lab for testing, or the doctor sends the patient to the lab or other facility for testing. The lab reports to the doctor, who then tells the patient the results and interprets them for the patient.
